Now, I’ve done it. I’ve finally found the limit of Christ’s ability to forgive.” Yet, no, instead we find the ever present arms of Christ ever ready and able to bless us with mercy and grace.

Think, Mother, of twelve millions–a number so great that it is impossible to realize it–yes, twelve million souls in China, every year, passing without God and without hope into eternity…Oh, let us look with compassion on this multitude! God has been merciful to us; let us be like Him.

It is easy to talk of leaving all for Christ, but when it comes to the proof–it is only as we stand “complete in Him” we can go through with it. These are a few things I’ve think I’ve been learning along the way:

Being a pastor is much more than simply keeping systems and programs of ministry running.

Being a pastor is a lot like being a soldier at war.

Like Paul, I believe 1 Timothy 1:15-17 is true of me too and that really makes things difficult sometimes(most of the time).

Neglecting to pursue God first and live my life with a constant view towards the Gospel equates to misery and makes the ability to pastor an impossibility.

God’s grace is greater than I could have ever imagined.

3 words

Let’s face it, life has this way of beating the snot out of you. Everyone needs encouragement. Uplifting words from close friends can alter the course of a day. The Bible is going to teach us that encouragement should be the standard for our communication to one another as believers (Eph. 4:29).

I was thinking today about the most encouraging people I know. What about them makes them so encouraging? What characteristics do they share? I’ve found one thing that they all do that I think shapes their ability to lift others up. Three words: “How are you?” They all ask it, and they all listen to what is said after it.

Sounds simple enough.

Ascend the Hill - “Return to Us”

Thus, too, it happens in estimating our spiritual qualities. So long as we do not look beyond the earth, we are quite pleased with our own righteousness, wisdom, and virtue; we address ourselves in the most flattering terms, and seem only less than demigods. But should we once begin to raise our thoughts to God, and reflect what kind of being he is, and how absolute the perfection of that righteousness, and wisdom, and virtue, to which, as a standard, we are bound to be conformed, what formerly delighted us by its false show of righteousness will become polluted with the greatest iniquity; what strangely imposed upon us under the name of wisdom will disgust by its extreme folly; and what presented the appearance of virtuous energy will be condemned as the most miserable impotence.”

The exercise was given to me in order to help me grow as a communicator. Thus far, I’ve given a persuasive speech and done a stand-up comedy routine (yep, you read that right). Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

I use 5 sentences to say what can be said in 2.

Its important to lead in strong. First impressions are everything, and often mine is sheepish.

I talk really quick and need to slow down.

I care way too much about what other people think of me which causes stress and anxiety during preparation <— that would be sin, by the way. (I’ve noticed I’m more apt in these situations to remain focused on my ability instead of repenting)

I can fake confidence in front of people - I’m yet to decide if that’s good or not.

Even though these exercises have caused me some duress, I actually think I like them. We’ll see if that stays the case…

#outtamymindtuesday

#outtamymindtuesday

Persecution in India: Francis’ Response from Cornerstone...

Persecution in India: Francis’ Response from Cornerstone Church on Vimeo.
